Chromatography Flowers

Looking for a new way to keep the kids entertained indoors? Break out the science experiments for a fun and educational activity. Chromatography is the process of separating a solution into different parts. Creating these chromatography flowers will spruce up your short term rental in New Jersey by adding a personal flare and putting your art on display. All you need is coffee filters, washable colored markers, water, pipe cleaner or tape and a small cup. Start by flattening a coffee filter on a plate, using a marker, draw a thick lined circle about half way between the middle and edge. Draw a simple design in your favorite colors, there are no rules except to ensure there is lots of white space left to allow the spreading of colors. Next, add a teaspoon of water to the middle of the coffee filter. Watch as the water moves through the paper and creates a beautiful design. Once slightly dry, twist the center of the filter to create a flower shape and secure with tape or pipe cleaner. Place into small cup and voila, you chromatography flowers are complete.
