Halloween has not been canceled in New Jersey, but don’t make the mistake of believing that a costume mask is enough for trick-or-treating amid the ongoing pandemic. Governor Murphy has issued the following guidelines to ensure that Halloween this year is both fun and safe:

  1. People participating in Halloween are encouraged to wear a mask that covers the mouth and nose, regardless if a person has a costume mask on.
  2. Candy should not be distributed using a communal bowl.
  3. Trick-or-treating groups should be limited to current household members. If that can’t be done, social distancing should be practiced.
  4. Trick-or-treaters should limit the number of homes they visit, and they should stay local.
  5. Halloween activities are encouraged to be held outdoors, and people must comply with the Governor’s executive order on gathering limits – which is 25% of a room’s capacity indoors (25 people for general indoor gatherings) and 500 people outdoors.
